Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture |
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient art that has been practiced for over 3,000
years. This ancient art focuses on treating both the symptom and
underlying cause on the condition. Acupuncture is a whole medical
system that treats the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical
being. How does Acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote
natural healing and to improve functioning. The body has pathways
where energy flows called meridians. When there is an imbalance or
obstruction in the meridians, conditions develop. Acupuncture will
help correct these imbalances by inserting needles at precise
locations to help the body restore its natural state of health. From
a western perspective research has shown various physiological
changes following an acupuncture treatment such as; regulation of
hormones and neurotransmitters. Acupuncture also offers beneficial
changes in cell counts, anti-inflammatory agents and release of
endorphines, which are natural relievers of pain and stress.
How will I feel?
Acupuncture produces a relaxing sensation.
As the needles are being inserted you may feel nothing at all to a
mild tingling or dull sensation as the energy is being rebalanced.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies as each person has a unique case. The more acute the
problem is, the fewer the treatments needed. Most people see
improvement in 1 to 4 treatments.
What is an Acupuncture Treatment like?
The Acupuncture session begins by taking a detailed history
from the patient including: health history, current symptoms,
lifestyle, diet and emotions. Diagnosis and treatment strategies
are determined by reading the pulses on body wrists. These
readings will determine where the energy imbalances are in the
body and which style of treatment is right for you.
